Understanding Your Body Through Somatic Therapy

In the intricate dance of mind and body, we often overlook the profound messages encoded in our physical experiences. The study of psychosomatics delves into the interconnectedness of our thoughts and bodily sensations, unraveling patterns that influence our choices.

Undoing Patterning:

Psychosomatics show us the internal patterning we have created both intentionally and unintentionally in our lives. Our internal dialogue and patterns show through our physical bodies. This is why understanding our subconscious patterning is so important and can actually change the way we look on a physical level over time.

Mind-Body Manifestations:

The relationship between mind and body is undeniable; anything that takes root in our minds eventually finds its manifestation in our bodies. Pain, often ignored or suppressed, becomes a crucial language our psyche uses to communicate. By acknowledging and addressing physical discomfortes, we uncover the messages our psyche is desperate for us to hear.

The Four Bodies:

Understanding our existence through the lens of four bodies—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual—reveals the depth of our being. Each body holds its own narrative, largely operating in the unconscious realm. When we understand and bring these narratives into consciousness it is a transformative journey toward holistic alignment.

Unlocking the Feet – Your Childhood:

Our feet show us the patterns we have learned and collected as a child. Depending on your experiences, you may walk and stand in different ways. For example, if you were often taught to fight or felt the need to fight for a place in your family as a child, you may walk with your toes pointed out, and with a wider stance. The way you walk and hold yourself begins in your feet, understanding these patterns can help to address them and empower the grown up version of yourself.

Knees – The Gateway to Teenage Years:

The knees, representing the teenage years, often hold the key to unlocking power dynamics. For example, many find their knees locked, symbolizing a challenge to fully step into their power. Pain felt in the knees or injuries to the knees often tell us about where we are struggling with power in our lives.

Hips – Unraveling Stories of Overworking:

The hips tell us a lot about our past traumas, whether or not we feel safe and rooted. Pain and weight gain in the belly, point to issues with our sexuality, creativity, and over-working. Often times weight gain in the belly is your body’s response to not feeling safe and the added weight serves as protection.

The Masculine-Feminine Balance:

The body is divided into the right masculine side and the left feminine side, together they embody the dance between these two polarities. Exploring the balance between these energies unlocks a deeper understanding of oneself and what things you might be holding on to in your physical body. For example, if you constantly feel pain on one side of your body, that can point to where you are out of balance. You may be leaning too far into your masculine or feminine, and need to find more balance between the two.

Conversations with Your Body:

Engaging in a dialogue with your body becomes a powerful tool for self-discovery. By asking targeted questions, you can discover areas of pain, identify patterns, and discern the leaning towards masculine or feminine energies. Psychosomatic therapy can be a useful tool to uncover these issues and help you find more balance in your mind, body, and spirit.
