Stop Giving Away Your Power!

The title of this podcast “Play It Brave” couldn’t be more fitting today as I share my insights on how most of us are giving away our power to others, how to stop this vicious cycle, and what amazing life we can create when we’re in a place of empowerment. (hint: it involves more money & freedom) If you feel disempowered in your business, your relationships, or life in general, this episode is for you! Tune in.

14 Ways You Give Away Your Power to Others & How to Stop:

1. Your self image depends on other people’s opinions of you.

If these situations effect of how you look at yourself, this is coming from a place of your own disempowerment.

How to Resolve: Get honest with yourself in who you are, what you have to offer, and live your life that you have the right to live.

2. You’re caught in the circle of pleasing others and never pleasing yourself.

Maybe you let difficult clients milk you dry, or you have a sister you don’t get along with but you do what she wants so you don’t cause trouble… You’re betraying yourself, your value, and what your boundaries are.

How to Resolve: You need to stand up for yourself, say things not in a place of frustration, but from a place of calm neutrality, that simply states who you are and what your standard is.

3. You’re too nice.

Sometimes being nice is NOT being loving. Sometimes being the most loving is telling someone something hard.

How to Resolve: Ditch being nice for being direct and honest from a place of love.

4. You struggle to know yourself.

You get distracted from what you really want, why you want it, and how you’re going to create it.

How to Resolve: Don’t be afraid to change your path to fit what you desire for yourself.

5. You create guru’s instead of teachers.

A guru is someone you hand your power to. Think of Regina George in Mean Girls – all the women handed her their power because they wanted to be like her. Sometimes we hand people our money and our power because we think we will become them.

How to Resolve: Find a good teacher who will help YOU BECOME YOU and not THEM.

6. You don’t know what you value and you compromise your values to fit in.

Your business grows when you’re in alignment with your values.You attract others with those same values.

How to Resolve: Don’t be afraid to have a stance and share your values publicly. Don’t be a chameleon.

7. You don’t have healthy boundaries.

When you don’t have healthy boundaries you’re living in guilt, shame, and anxiety. Guilt is one of the lowest vibrations we can live in.

How to Resolve: Communicate your boundaries in a neutral way.

8. You don’t understand your shadow side.

Maybe you cheated in school, you lie about something, you’re judgmental – we ALL have them. The shadow side of the queen archetype (my archetype) is being a weakling or a tyrant.

How to Resolve: Learn about your archetype and the light and shadow that comes with that. (Tune in here to learn more about archetypes)

9. We deny our own healing and make excuses for our patterns.

When something doesn’t go as we hope, we blame others.

How to Resolve: Acknowledge the patterns of behavior that you have, and work towards healing that story.

10. You take too much advice from friends and family who DO NOT want what you want.

There are still people who aren’t out of the closet. There are still people who tell their parents they are going to church when they are not.

How to Resolve: Follow the lead of people who want what you want, and take the advice and opinions of others with a grain of salt.

11. You spend too much time dreaming and not doing.

How to Resolve: You need to put the steps in place to do the things that you’re dreaming about.

12. You don’t use your voice & avoid difficult conversations. 

13. You do things you feel you have to do. 

14. You spend a lot of time talking about people who have wronged you, hurt you, judged you, or that you simply don’t like.

If you find yourself talking about others in a negative way, you’re giving away your power and turning yourself into a victim.

How to Resolve: You don’t let what happened to you control you and consume your conversations.
