On today’s episode of the Play It Brave podcast, my guest knows exactly what it means to live your truth and manifest the life of your dreams. 

Sandra Chuma is an entrepreneur, speaker, coach, podcast host, and award-winning documentary filmmaker. She believes that our greatest responsibility is to share our stories so we can inspire and create possibility for others.

Raised in a tiny mud hut in Zimbabwe with no running water or electricity, Sandra has never been one to let circumstances define her. She went on to build two successful companies and advise major global brands. 

Despite her professional success, she knew she wasn’t walking in her purpose. Sandra went back to school in 2015 to get a master’s degree in journalism, storytelling, and documentary filmmaking from Columbia University.

Through the power of story, and leveraging her experience as a management consultant, Sandra has made it her mission to help others create the best version of themselves. She builds brands focused on providing inspiration and community.

Sandra is the founder of Ndini, which is a platform focused on telling the stories of inspiring, trailblazing African women. Sandra is also the founder of Worthy and the Woman on Fire Summit.

How to Get Clear On YOUR Goals:

  • Sometimes we need to step into our OWN dreams and decide what our dreams are, not what the people around us want for us.
  • In school we’re taught all the basics of reading, writing, math, but we’re not taught how to step into our goals and actually achieve them.
  • We’re all worthy of achieving our highest potential. Worthy is about giving you a framework and the steps to get there.
  • Our emotions are the greatest indicator of when it’s time for a change. We start FEELING unfulfilled, unhappy and misaligned with our desires.
  • When you start to think about your goals, you need to think about where you’re misaligned with where you want to go. That’s where you start to implement change.
  • Only 8% of people follow through on their New Year’s Resolutions. That’s because people haven’t connected their head with their heart’s desires.
  • Sometimes we don’t allow ourselves to dream, but when we do find that clarity, we start to be guided towards that dream.

How to Reach Your Goals with the WORTHY Method:

W – Get Clear On Your WHY

Figure out what is it that lights you up! A SHOULD goal is not your hearts desire… It’s your head. “I SHOULD do this”

O – OWN the day

You can be efficient and get a lot done, but are you being EFFECTIVE? You need to be effective and intentional in order to achieve your goals. Allow yourself boundaries and schedule in time in your day to achieve your dreams.

R – REFLECTION, REST & REWARD Helps Maintain Momentum and Motivation

We need to build in milestones on our way to achieving our goals in order to reward ourselves and build motivation for continuing. We also need to reflect on what you’ve done and build in self-care and rest along the way.

T – TRACK Your Progress

Tracking isn’t an opportunity for you to beat yourself up. It’s a way of navigating your path forward towards your goal, no matter how far off the path you get. Be kind with yourself. It’s all just about making progress, NOT perfection. What can you do to make tracking feel fun?

H – Instill HABITS

What are those habits that you need to implement for you to get to your goals? Is it getting 8 hours of sleep? Waking up and working out? 

Y – It is all about YOU

Think about who you want to be. What are your values? What behaviors align with the goals that you have?
