Have you ever heard of Curiosity Marketing? These psychology-driven marketing techniques are SO powerful in converting your audience into paying clients. I invited my Psychology Expert/Photographer friend, Jodi Anne onto the podcast to drop all the info on Curiosity Marketing and how YOU can use it to CONNECT and CONVERT without feeling salesy. Ready to dive in? Hit play.
Jodi is an accomplished international wedding photographer and a single-mom to three incredible future-gentlemen. She holds a Master’s degree in Educational & School Psychology and somehow juggles it all with candid humor and deep authenticity. She uses her years of studying Psychology and human behavior to ease her clients into her photoshoots with grace, and creates images that convey true emotion and connection due to her signature shooting method.
Not giving your audience exactly what they want all the time. Sparking someone’s curiosity so that they are more engaged and interested.
Bring your audience along during parts of your day-to-day life and leave them hanging to some degree so they want to keep coming back for more. (Just like your favorite tv show – you HAD to know if Ross and Rachel would get back together for the 15th time, right?!)
Don’t put out links or details out right away. This forces people to reach out and have a conversation in order to find out the details.
People have a hard time picking up their phone and putting their face in front of the camera, but, psychology shows that facial recognition is such a powerful force that drives people’s decision to do business with you. Idea: Don’t just repost something. Get your face in front of the camera and talk about it first to give your audience context.
It’s just as important to show the hard stuff as it is to share the highlights. There’s a balance of acknowledging the hard stuff, without staying in a negative space. When in doubt, use the 90:10 or 80:20 rule.
Educate, empower, and entertain your audience.
The more you serve your audience, the more likely they will be to support you and give you their money.
Use “we” or group language so people feel like they belong.
Create a storyline of something that’s happening in your life and weave it over a series of days or weeks. People will keep coming back because they’re invested in that story and how it will turn out. Just like when you tune into another episode of your favorite show because of where the episode before left off.
People are captivated by seeing how other people live.
Your audience can sniff out bullshit. Let your freak flag fly and be authentic to who you really are.
Don’t worry about what other people think.
If you don’t show up consistently then there’s no point in showing up at all. Having a weekly series is a great way to create consistency. For example, I did a Sunday Escapes series where every Sunday I shared memories from my travels to a specific place.
