Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt afraid of raising your prices in fear that you’ll hear crickets…. *hand raised here* The number one question I get DAILY is “How do I know when it’s time to raise my prices and how do I do it?” Pricing can be tricky, but do you know what can be trickier? Your mind. Our mind talks us out of a lot of things and makes excuses for not following our intuition. In this episode, Allison Parker and I talk through her fear of raising her prices, and what the root cause of that fear is. Tune in if you relate even a tiiiiny bit, because I promise you, we all do this in some form or another and it’s a time we break the cycle, am I right? Hit play!
Allison Parker is a wedding photographer based in Thunder Bay, ON, Canada. She began her photography journey in 2011 after being inspired by the natural beauty of her home in Northern Ontario. Since photographing her first wedding in 2014, Allison has had the pleasure of photographing couples in the GTA, London, Minnesota, and Arizona. When she isn’t photographing weddings, Allison teaches others how to master their cameras to create images they love.
First of all, I want to answer the big question in all of your heads, “When do I know it’s time to raise my prices?” The biggest sign that it’s time to raise your prices is when you’re fully booked.
If you’re fully booked (especially if you’re fully booked a year in advance), this means you’re in high demand. If you’re in high demand, then this generally means your work and service is of great value and deserves a higher price point.
It’s as simple as that! Now let’s tackle that fear that lives inside your head, shall we?! (C’mon we all know there’s a part of you still trying to talk yourself out of raising your prices)
“But I don’t want to price myself out of the market…”
“What if I’m priced higher than other photographers, so they book them instead?”
“What if I can’t provide enough value to be worth a higher price point?”
“But I feel guilty for asking for more money when I’m doing something I love…”
And so on… Whatever story you’re telling yourself, it’s time to stop that negative cycle of thoughts.
In this episode, I talk Allison through her negative thought patterns and give her some ideas and resources for stepping out of the cycle and into her POWER. It’s time for YOU to do the same!
