Mary Hyatt, an expert in embodiment and alignment, provided valuable insights this week on the Play It Brave podcast. True alignment is not about doing more, but about living authentically and honoring your true self, rather than wearing masks to seek love and avoid pain. Mary shared her own journey of recognizing the masks she wore, and how misalignment manifests through symptoms like anxiety, procrastination, and self-sabotage. It is so important to listen to your body’s wisdom, using somatic tools like breathwork, movement, and emotional release to come back into alignment. Mary also shared powerful examples demonstrating how tuning into the body’s messages and making small, aligned changes can lead to significant life improvements.
Incorporating these four embodiment elements can be transformative tools for coming back into alignment with your true self.
1. Breath – Focusing on the breath brings attention to the present moment and anchors you in the body. Practices like the 4-7-8 breath or Sitali pranayama can instantly calm the nervous system
2. Movement – Allowing the body to move freely and expressively can release built-up tension and emotions. Gentle, grounding movements like walking, stretching, or simple yoga poses can help you reconnect with your physicality.
3. Sound – Giving voice to your experience through sound can be a powerful form of emotional release. Utilizing primal sounds like sighs, hums, or vocal toning can stimulate the vagus nerve and regulate the nervous system
4. Tears – Letting go through tears can be a profound act of self-compassion and honoring your emotional needs. Allowing yourself to cry freely can reset the body and mind after periods of stress or overwhelm.
